In order to support my opinion it
is important to make the distinction between art and porn clear. Some people ignorantly
categorize pieces of art like these as porn but there is a huge difference
between porn and art. Porn was created and is used with the purpose of arousing
feelings in humans that should be aroused only in the sanctity of marriage. It
plays with these feelings in order to make business, for monetary gain and
greed.
Art on the other hand deals with
the sublime, the mysterious and complicated system of inner feelings and deeper
thoughts. It praises the wonders of nature and the marvels of humanity and its
various ways of acting. Art encourages us to think, to analyze, to ponder, and
to ask ourselves how we relate to the piece being studied.
I believe it is an absolute insult
to compare something as beautiful and worthy of appraisal and applause, with
something as dirty and disgusting as porn. Those who do not value the hard work
and thoughtful dedication of an artist like this and compare it with the
horrible work of a porn maker, whose only purpose is to make easy money by
playing with sacred things shows lack of knowledge and sensitivity towards what
is beautiful.
Our adults and children need to be educated to
understand the difference between something that was meant to be beautiful and
delightful as this master piece of “The Kiss”, with something vile as porn.
That is an unique viewpoint, comparing art and porn. Though, it makes me wonder if there needs to be a certain age and maturity for people to see art as art and not porn. What about children's perspectives?

Pornography is meant to arouse lustful feelings for monetary gain. this purpose is completely different from the purpose of the art piece, "The Kiss." What is displayed is a beautiful representation of love between a man and a woman.
ReplyDeleteI agree that there is a huge difference between art and pornography. The two have such different purposes. Though I do also agree with Vivienne in that an immature mind might have a difficult time distinguishing between the two.
ReplyDeleteKelvin I think you are totally right! Art and Porn are two very different things and it is incredibly sad when people mix that up. I agree that such a beautiful piece like "The Kiss" should be able to be viewed and understood by the public.
ReplyDeleteI had never really thought on how artwork of this kind and porn are very distinctively different. How both are made for completely different purposes and since this art was made to inspire others and to help them understand history better. It should be displayed because it is completely different than pornography.
ReplyDeleteFor those who compare art like this to porn..well obviously they are missing the point. I am not an art expert myself, but I can at least appreciate those who take the time to study and grow to love and appreciate art. Nudity may play a factor and unfortunately that is something that even an entire religious institution cannot avoid. Just because a group of people may define it a sculpted porn, universally it may be view as art. Futhermore, art is art.
